Overview

People who have lost their limbs due to birth defects, traumatic injuries and diseases, the numbers of these people are considered pretty high in the country. The northern part of Bangladesh is one of the most crucial parts in the country where road accident frequently occurs. Many people die and seriously injured every year due to the road casualties. Keeping in view to provide Prosthetic and Orthotic services i.e. artificial limbs at nominal cost to these patients (particularly the poor who can only dream of walking again), Rotary Club of Ramna, Club ID 16135, District 3281 has initiated a new Global Grant Project in December 2019, to establish a Prosthetic and Orthotic Limb Center at 750 Bedded TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital (TMC&RCH), Bogura so that the people of Northern Bangladesh can be benefited. The catchment area of this project covers also three other adjacent districts- Joypurhat, Naogaon, and Gaibandha.

The Center provides all types of Prosthesis and Orthotic Limb services including Upper and Lower artificial Limbs. So far, many patients already have received Prosthesis and Orthotic Limbs from this center. This has created a big impact as the project has provided with artificial limbs at nominal costs to the poor, and even to others who have lost their limbs become able again. Apart from providing limb services, the center also supports polio and club foot patients. The center is being operated by a pool of experienced technicians under the supervision and guidance of Orthopaedics & Traumatology department of TMC&RCH. It will fulfill the dire necessity of the people of this region as a Trusted & International Standard Cost Effective Prosthetic & Orthotic limbs service providing center.

The project funding is supported by The Rotary Foundation, Rotary Club of Ramna, RID 3281, Rotary Club of Bogra, RID 3281 and Rotary Club of Ilsan Jayuro, RID 3690 and allocated for the Procurement of Equipment & Supplies, Staff Capacity Building Training and Publicity. P & O limbs Project Goal :

Establishing a P&O Limbs Center, in Bogra, also catering to Joypurhat, Naogaon and Gaibandha districts.

P & O limbs Project Objectives

1. To serve the poor with prosthetic & Orthotic limbs at nominal costs.
2. To provide increased accessibility to prosthetic & Orthotic treatment nationwide.
3. To provide orientation/training for the medical and technical skills through the facilities to be provided through the project.
4. To increase awareness on P&O care.
5. To develop the center with all necessary, equipment, tools and raw materials.

P & O limbs Project Expected Outcome

1. Prevent/reduced incidence of disability in the project communities.
2. Provided treatment to initial group of patients limbs camps facilities.
3. Technological upgrading with modern equipment procured and installed in the P&O health care needs of the project area.
4. Contributed to the related health services in the project location, as stipulated in the national and global plan, ( sustainable development goals) will be benefited with P&O limbs.
